A professional is a good steward of expensive resources.
The quota is 1500 units per user per semester for engineering majors.
The quota is 300 units per user per semester for non-engineering majors.
A web tool helps users monitor their usage.
Printing is a fairly expensive service to provide. As a result, the college allocates a quota each semester to limit how much printing each user can do during the course of the semester and then tracks how much each user prints. The quota is a tool to remind users how much they are printing and that they should be good stewards of a scarce and expensive resource.
As of August 1, 2006, each student will be issued a quota each semester allowing them to print to any printer or plotter in any lab in the college. Engineering majors will receive a 1500 unit quota and non-engineering majors will receive a 300 unit quota. Different printers will consume different amounts of units, with the basic black & white printer consuming 1 unit per printed page. Color prints will consume 10 units per page and plotters will consume a considerable amount more (see each plotter for specific amounts).
The 1500 unit allocation is a large change from past years, but students are urged to be good stewards of this resource. The cost of printing affects equipment and other resource purchases each year.
