Computer Labs

Overview

The College of Engineering provides more than 1000 computers in more than 50 laboratories throughout the nine buildings in the college. With few exceptions, all computing labs are open to all engineering students.

Most labs are scheduled for classes through the week, but when not scheduled are open for walk-in use. The schedule for each lab is available through the ITS Labs Database and posted both at the door and inside the lab.

The majority of computers in the college use the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, but several labs located in Howe and Coover house computers that use the RedHat Enterprise Linux operating system.

Listed below is a collection of resources to help you learn more about the facilities in the College of Engineering.

Access Restrictions

Access to all computing labs in the college is restricted. Only those students who are enrolled in the College of Engineering (or taking classes in the college) and the faculty and staff in the college are allowed to logon to the computers.

Lab availability is posted online (lab locations & hours). When a lab is closed, only support staff and faculty teaching in the facility are authorized to be in the room.

The lab facilities are intended to support instructional needs. The University Code of Computer Ethics applies, as do all other University or legal requirements, including compliance with license terms for software provided on lab computers. Additional user regulations can be found on the Policies/Procedures link.
