Engineering Fee

What is the Engineering Fee?

Computer Lab supported by Engineering Fee funds (Hoover Hall)

The Engineering Fee, paid by all College of Engineering students, provides resources to supplement state appropriations used to cover the costs of academic computing in the College.  This fee allows the CoE at Iowa State to advance the state of the art in instruction and contribute to the college's goal of being a top-ranked academic institution.

This special fee for engineering students was established by the Board of Regents simultaneously at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, beginning with the 1985-86 academic year.

How is the Engineering Fee distributed?

Beginning with FY2006 the Engineering Fee funds will be distriubted using a proposal-driven model based upon needs in alignment with the college's Seamless IT Initative.  Departments and administrative units will identify needs that align with the follwoing college goals:

  • Advance the Seamless IT environment
  • Impact a broad range of students
  • Are collaborative, cooperative, and standards-based
  • Cross department boundaries
  • Advance the state of art in instruction
  • Contribute to the college's goal of being a top-ranked academic institution

More details on the revised procedures for Engineering Fee funding distribution will be posted soon.
